Public Consultation Updates

The first public consultation period for IFA v6 for plant propagation material and IFA v6 for combinable crops closed on 17 March.

The second public consultation period for these standards is scheduled for 31 July to 22 September.

GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board adoption of the final draft documents is scheduled for quarter four of 2023.

IFA v6 (for fruit and vegetables, flowers and ornamentals, hops, and aquaculture) and GRASP v2

Public consultation for IFA v6 and GRASP v2 closed in November 2021. The GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board approved the new IFA standard documents and GLOBALG.A.P. Risk Assessment on Social Practice (GRASP add-on v2) documents in December 2021.

After two years of consultations and collaborations, the new IFA standard v6 (interim final version) and GRASP add-on v2 officially launched on 26 April 2022. The final standard documents were published on 29 September 2022. This standard becomes obligatory and replaces all previous versions on 1 January 2024.

IFA v6 public consultation in numbers

  • Four public consultation rounds took place between May 2020 and November 2021.
  • We received over 4,000 comments on IFA and 300 on GRASP.
  • We hosted 120 World Consultation Tour webinars with 695 participants.
  • Webinars took place in 15 languages across 20 time zones.
  • Field trials for IFA v6 were completed in seven different countries.
 

Who is involved in the revision of our standards and add-ons?

GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat
  • The GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat provides the draft documents as a basis for consultation.
  • Through the GLOBALG.A.P. Secretariat, feedback is collected and presented to the relevant focus groups and technical committees.
Committees
  • Technical committee and focus group members represent stakeholders from the whole supply chain.
  • The technical committees make the final recommendations to the GLOBALG.A.P. Advisory Board on the content and formulation of criteria, keeping in mind the stakeholders whom they represent.
Public stakeholders
  • Stakeholders provide feedback on the content and comprehensibility of the draft versions, drawing on their individual perspectives.

Important Dates

April 2022: Publication of IFA v6 (interim final documents) for fruit and vegetables, flowers and ornamentals, hops, and aquaculture, and GRASP v2 checklist.

September 2022: Publication of IFA v6 and GRASP v2 (final documents).

January 2023: Public consultation begins for IFA v6 for plant propagation material and combinable crops.

September 2023: Public consultation ends for IFA v6 for plant propagation material and combinable crops.

January 2024: End of transition period. IFA v6 Smart for fruit and vegetables, flowers and ornamentals, hops, and aquaculture becomes obligatory and replaces v5.2. V6 GFS will only become obligatory three months after GFSI recognition is achieved . The exact date for this is still unknown but is likely Q3-4 2024. Until then, v5.4-1-GFS remains valid. GRASP v2 replaces v1.3-1-i.

January 2025: IFA v6 for plant propagation material and combinable crops becomes obligatory and replaces all previous versions.
