The season for harvesting strawberries and rhubarb is beginning – but there is still a shortage of seasonal workers due to the coronavirus crisis. Skilled helpers are in short supply. After its first training videos for harvesting asparagus, GLOBALG.A.P. has now produced videos for harvesting other products, as well. The videos show how to harvest strawberries and rhubarb; what hygiene rules to follow before going out into the fields; what to consider for harvest, transport, and storage; what clothes to wear for harvesting; and how to behave at work to reduce the risk of a coronavirus infection.
GLOBALG.A.P. has produced these videos with the support of the supermarkets EDEKA, Lidl, and Kaufland, and for the strawberry videos with additional support from REWE/PENNY. Helping farmers in this time of crisis is a sign of solidarity.
Dr. Kristian Moeller, Chief Executive Officer of GLOBALG.A.P.,says: “Our videos with farmer Charlotte are for anyone who wants to offer their support with the upcoming strawberry and rhubarb harvest. They convey basic knowledge of food safety and health and safety at work to make it easier for everyone involved get started.”
The videos are freely available on YouTube and are linked to online platforms such as www.daslandhilft.de and www.bauersuchthilfe.de.
